A lot of people use the excuse “it can’t happen to me, it only happens to one in a million and look, they have money”.
Take for example in my field of art, musicians, and really look at this statement. What we’ll find is that it’s a big fat lie and that the truth is, yes, it can happen to you!
To prove this, we can start by looking at the musicians we love and changing our view of their journeys. Rather than looking at their current state of having high-budget videos, working with the top producers, performing shows in the biggest and best stadiums, having professional hair and makeup, etc., we need to look at where they began. We may find that their starting point was a lot similar to our own.
A lot of famous artists didn’t start out having thousands to invest in high-end videos or production. They performed at small venues with less than enthusiastic audiences, having to truck around their sound equipment and not having a full styling team, etc. You don’t need to take my word for it, just google your favorite artist and how they started.
Try Alicia Keys or Ed Sheeran for starters. Both did not have glamorous or fully funded starts. So, what’s the difference? What made them successful? I argue that it’s a simple state of mind. A determination to make it go right and not use excuses no matter how much they could have. Maybe finding ways around what may not seem possible and planting lots of seeds along the way.
Lots may die in harsh conditions, but some will grow and will be rooted in some fine soil.
So as you progress with your career make sure you do mindset checks along the way!
