I recently was listening to Tony Robbins, and something he said really resonated with me: “Your life is a reflection of your standards.” I believe this statement holds true in various aspects of life, whether it’s your physical health, financial situation, personal goals, or hobbies. For me, it prompted a moment of self-reflection.
I’ve observed this principle manifesting itself among artists as well. If you set your standards low, you may never reach the level of certain artists you admire. Conversely, if you hold yourself to high standards and believe that you will eventually match or even surpass those artists, it may take time, but you can certainly achieve that point of proficiency and potentially go beyond it.
The same principle applies to performers who limit themselves due to their beliefs about what they can accomplish. If you constantly compare yourself to others, watch their performances, and think, “I could never do that,” then you’re unlikely to progress. However, if you appreciate and learn from great performers, work hard, and understand the strategies they employ, you will eventually make progress and achieve similar feats.
It’s important to note that shifting your mindset and raising your standards alone isn’t enough. Mere declarations and affirmations won’t bring about the desired change. Instead, when you raise your standards and shift your mindset, it typically propels you to take action in alignment with your goals and aspirations. This action-oriented approach is what sets the difference in realizing your potential.
