How Well Do You Know Vocal Coach, Whitney Doucet?

From dancing to the fiddle as a young girl to performing with Keith Urban at the Xfinity Center, music has always been a part of Whitney Doucet’s life. Her desire to be around music as much as possible was clear early on and fuels her drive as she writes and records songs and guides students through their own music goals. Ok, so we all know that Whitney is an outstanding musician with a positive and bubbly personality, but we sat down with Whitney to learn even more about her! So without further ado…. meet Whitney!

Earliest memory with music? How was music part of your life growing up?

My earliest memory is my grandfather playing the fiddle. He would play the orange blossom special and I’d always dance.

The older I got the more freedom I had with the music I listened to. The first time I got a CD with headphones I was constantly listening to it. I always had headphones in.

What made you want to pursue music for a living? Is there a singular moment that sticks out?

It was always in the back of my mind. It was when I started listening to LeAnn Rimes. I coach and work as an artist so that I can always be singing and working with music.

What part of making music do you like the most? Writing? Recording? Do you have a favorite original song?

My favorite part is recording. I could be in a recording studio all day and all night and have no complaints. My song “Long Road” stuck out because I finally had a song that I could utilize high notes and belt notes and some serious real emotion. The other songs that I wrote I still love them all but I finally grew some courage to write about some true feelings instead of trying to sugarcoat them.

What do you hope the audience takes away from your songs?

I hope that people would get to know me just from my lyrics and my music because I only write and record things that are true. I don’t think I could sing something that isn’t true because I couldn’t get that emotion right.

Were there ever moments of self-doubt where you thought you might not make it in music? What made you push through those and keep going?

The biggest moment of self-doubt or questioning myself would be the day I heard that I’ll be singing with Keith Urban. I thought that I was tired of trying to get to that next level. I took a nap and got a voicemail from the radio station saying I would be singing with Keith Urban.

What was performing with Keith Urban like?

It was great! I think meeting Keith was my favorite part because he was so nice. He was so kind and welcoming and excited and reassuring that if anything were to go wrong they’d be able to cover it up. It catapulted me into performing live with a band and an acoustic duo and just get out there singing as much as I could.

What about coaching singers do you enjoy the most?

I think when we get a little breakthrough with any student at any level. It makes me feel good to see them feel good about it. It’s very rewarding. I like that I can be helpful.

What is your favorite food?

Mac and cheese! Annie’s white cheddar is my favorite.

Dog or cat?
