Boston/MA – Singer/Songwriter, Whitney Doucet is at it again with her newest single, Lyin’! Following her previous single, Long Road, which was placed on the official Grammy ballot for Best Country Song, Lyin’ expresses how sometimes we can all experience struggles and low moments in our lives.
When discussing the inspiration behind the song, Whitney says, “Lyin’ is about getting caught up in a relationship that you know you don’t want. I used cigarettes as the “bad guy” in this song, but its really about a love/hate relationship with another person. I don’t smoke, but something about cigarettes has a loneliness to it. The lyric ‘now I’m standing all alone and it’s gettin kinda cold” represents being alone in the desire for (fill in the blank in your life) cigarettes. If you go have a smoke outside, it’s lonely, and it’s winter so it’s VERY COLD! (would not recommend to a friend 😉 )”
Anyone that knows Whitney knows that she radiates positivity, as reflected in her previous music, so Lyin’ stands out from the group and Whitney credits the song with being one of her most true. “Out of all the songs I’ve written, this one is the most honest about the tough times. Most of my songs have been about a happy relationship, or a story of how I got through a tough time, or how to conquer your life by getting up and trying. This is the song about the struggle. It’s real. This song goes out to all of you who are dealing with the downs in life. May you all get through the tough times and learn from them. The light is always waiting for you when you’re ready. The sun will go down but it will always shine bright again!”
In conclusion, Whitney says, “If this song resonates with you and you need a helping hand reaching out of the darkness, I invite you to my weekly Dock Talk on my Instagram page @Whitdoucet. I started the Dock Talk 31 weeks ago to help jump start Monday motivation.”
