Ever since moving to Nashville I realized that I not only didn’t quite know my current place in the industry, but I also am not sure where I’m headed or exactly what I want. I’ve found it to be difficult accepting that your dreams and goals can change as you grow up. Do I want to be an artist? Songwriter? Work behind the scenes? Do I even want to work in the music industry or do I just want to be a fan? I still don’t know the answers to these questions and I think that is something a lot of people can relate to. But what I have learned is that success is not just the light at the end of the tunnel. Success is every day, every accomplishment, every step you take on the way to where you’re headed.
I recently ran into someone I am acquainted with and the conversation we had stuck with me. He said, “Hey! Long time no see, what’s something you haven’t done lately that you need to?” I laughed and responded with a confused ‘what?’ and he followed up by saying, “everyone just asks ‘how are you?’ but I’m sure you’re doing great. You’re out on a Saturday night and all but what’s going to make your Monday better than being here right now?” About ten different things popped into my head that could actually make my Monday a lot better than what its looking like right now. We continued to talk about those things and had a wonderful, meaningful conversation about life and how to be successful. By the end of the conversation I had an epiphany. I am right where I need to be, always. Every moment and encounter has a purpose. Sure, I could’ve been knocking things off my checklist on Saturday night, but instead I went out. And by doing so I was able to have this enlightening conversation that opened my eyes to the bigger picture. You will find the purpose, passion, and meaning to your life. But you don’t find it once you’ve ‘become successful’ you find it in every day you spend working towards it. Success isn’t the destination, it’s the journey.
